Alan Watts was born in London, studied with D.T. Suzuki and Christmas Humphreys, and later moved to the United States, where he became famous as a leader of the San Francisco counterculture in the 1960s. Watts played a crucial role in integrating of Oriental philosophy into the emerging world view of the late 20th century, helping to awaken millions to new ways of knowing. He is the author of The Way of Zen; This Is It; The Wisdom of Insecurity; The Book: On the Taboo against Knowing Who You Are; and a vast collection of audio recordings.
